About

Rooted in Somali stories, reaching a global audience

Born and raised in Somalia, Abdirahman Fiili belongs to a new generation of African filmmakers dedicated to bringing underrepresented voices to international audiences. His journey began in 2013 as a songwriter — lyrics and storytelling that reached more than 100 million views — before he transitioned into filmmaking in 2020, trained by the Somali Film Agency, the Somali Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and mentors including Abdulkadir Ahmed Said.

Today he writes, directs, and produces work that bridges local experience with universal themes — from the breakout television drama Arday to the award-winning short Hopeless and the internationally selected feature Barni.
